Specialty coffee shops continue to be a significant place for consumers to have a unique coffee experience. The coffee shop landscape is always changing as trends shift and consumers evolve.
The SCA’s U.S. Coffee Market Overview 2017 is a piece of information that offers a large-scale understanding of coffee retail sales. This information is valuable for industry players as it offers insight into directions for future growth.
The report focuses on retail values of coffee in the U.S. and explores where people buy and consume their coffee. The report is divided into two parts: the retail value of total coffee and specialty coffee.
- The retail value of total coffee in the U.S. was $79- $80 billion and 56% of that was specialty coffee.
- Many consumers are purchasing coffee for out of home consumption. Out of home retail sales was $63 billion, while coffee purchased for at home consumption was $16.6 billion.
- The retail sales value of the coffee shop sector was $21.5 billion.
